Exploring Daingerfield Island

Located just south of National Airport, Daingerfield Island is a 106-acre park with plenty to offer. It provides sailors with slips and a marina, naturalists with lots of green space to explore, cyclists and joggers with an oasis and pit stop, and the general public with a restaurant and cafe’.

Though not really an island, much of the land here is surrounded by the Potomac River and there’s a premiere marina that houses small racing sailboats.  The island can easily be accessed from the George Washington Memorial Parkway or the Mount Vernon Bike Trail. If you love sailing, Washington Sailing Marina rents out boats, kayaks, and even offers sailing classes. For the naturalists, rent a bike or walk along the Island freshwater tidal marsh to the tidal channel at the boardwalk and see the tidal channel flow under the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Be on the lookout for herons, turtles, snakes, frogs, and kingfishers.

When you’ve built an appetite enjoy a picnic in the park or head over to Indigo Landing Restaurant for some seafood and steak while enjoying sweeping views of the vast expanse of water.
